Winterfest Family Social

 

This weekend is the Winterfest Family Social on Saturday from 5 - 7 pm, sponsored by the Oak Knoll Community Outreach Committee.

The Social is a fun, community-building event where you can meet other families in a smaller, more personal setting while you dance Zumba, do a craft, play a game, participate in a scavenger hunt and enjoy a potluck dinner.  Sign up  here to bring items for the pot luck.

This is a great opportunity for Oak Knoll working families who are not always able to attend other Oak Knoll community events to meet one another. Attendance will be limited to the first 40 families who sign up.

Reminder to parents: Do not walk through the parking lot!
If you park on the street and walk in to get your child after school, please DO NOT WALK THROUGH THE PARKING LOT. This is dangerous and against school rules. The walkway in front of the parking lot will take you around to the front of the school and have you cross at the crosswalk (near the K playground.) Cutting through the parking lot is NOT a path into the school. Please use the sidewalk and obey the yellow signs.

NO DOGS on School Property
Please remember that there are NO DOGS allowed on campus - on leashes, held in your arms, tucked in your bag.  While your family-friendly dog seems perfectly benign to bring to pick up, it does not seem that way to a child who has had a scary experience with a dog in his lifetime.  And while you may think that the dog you are holding in your arms is perfectly harmless, it may not seem that way to a child who has severe dog allergies.  That child may be looking around at all the children petting your dog wondering which of those children is now going directly to the same after-school class, not having washed hands, with pet hair or saliva on their hands.  It may sound over-reactive to you, but it seems very scary to a child with allergies. 
Let's teach our children to be respectful of all students at Oak Knoll by following the rules.

Site Council Survey    
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!  Don't you want to tell us what you think?  Click here to complete the 2012 Oak Knoll parent survey.  The principals, teachers and Site Council members want to know your thoughts on what's going well at Oak Knoll and where we can improve.  Survey responses are anonymous and the survey deadline is this Friday, January 27th.  Click here to print a Spanish version of the survey.  Return completed paper versions of the survey to your teacher or the office in a sealed envelope.   Contact David Ackerman or Kim Guthrie with any questions.  Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts!
  
Seeking Nominations for next year's PTO Executive Board 
We're looking for PTO Executive Board candidates for the 2012-2013 school year.  Consider nominating yourself or someone you know.  Being on the PTO board is a great way to get involved at Oak Knoll.  Please email nominations and any questions to Carolyn Bowsher. Friends & Family Day 2012 - Friday, March 9 - Save the Date 
Mark your calendar for Oak Knoll's 14th annual Friends and Family Day.  This event gives students an opportunity to share what they do at school with a friend. These visiting friends will receive a first hand look at our wonderful classroom experiences and terrific teachers in action, as well as a chance to see our beautiful campus!
Your child can invite any friend to visit him/her on the morning of Friday, March 9th (grandparent, neighbor, aunt, uncle, cousin, parent, older sibling, babysitter, coach or scout leader, etc.) Encourage your child to get creative - this is a chance for your child to honor someone as his/her guest at the school. Teachers can arrange for your child to share a visiting friend with a classmate, and 4th and 5th graders may volunteer to be "ambassadors" to help escort their classmates's guests on campus.

Foundation 500 Challenge Update

Since launching the Foundation 500 Challenge in December we've raised $154,415 for our schools! That brings us closer to meeting the district need of $4 million, but there's still over $95,500 waiting to be matched. Let's not leave any of the Challenge Grant funds on the table! If you're a new donor and haven't given-or if you'd like to donate again and have your increase matched-there's no better time than now! The deadline for this Challenge Grant is February 15.
 
As a final step in our overall annual campaign that closes on February 15, we will be calling those families we haven't yet heard from. Want to avoid this call? Make your donation by January 31 and you won't hear from us. That's a promise. Thank you. Click here to donate.
