Curriculum

The Oak Knoll music department goals are to teach basic concepts of musicianship and provide opportunities to explore the different aspects of the musical experience such as improvisation, performance, and composition.

The curriculum is based on the Visual and Performing Arts Framework for California Public Schools as well as The National Standards for Music Education.  At all grade levels, students sing/speak, move, and play instruments, progressing from musical imitation to improvisation and music literacy.

At the fourth and fifth grade levels, students choose to join the Oak Knoll Band, the Oak Knoll Orchestra, or continue with classroom music.  K-2rd grade classes receive thirty minutes of music a week. Third grade sixty minutes per week, and fourth and fifth grade students receive a seventy five minutes per week.
