With our new lunch schedule, we are able to offer more playground options than ever before.  Our Playground Menu will be posted in every 1st-5th grade classroom as a resource for students.

  • The Art Room will be opened on Thursday.
  • The Wild Zone is opened M-F for students interested in nature and creative play. Parent volunteers are supervising the Wild Zone daily!
  • The Science Lab is opened on Tuesday and Thursday for students interested in exploring, experimenting and learning about insects and animals.

  • The Imagination Playground is rolled out onto the yard daily.
  • The Ball Room, which houses equipment including hula hoops, balls, chalk, jump ropes and games is open daily.
  • The Primary Zone is a place on the playground that is reserved for Primary students only. This includes our green play structure!
  • PE Challenges will take place on Thursdays with Dr.Westfall.

Lunchtime Notes and Reminders:

  • Lunch is from 12:15-1:00 for 1st-5th grade students

    • 12:15-12:30 the big kids play and the little kids eat.
    • 12:30-12:45 is the only time students are “together” on the yard. We call this “together time”, although there is a Primary Zone for 1st-2nd graders only.
    • 12:45-1:00 the little kids play and the big kids eat.
  • Supervision on the yard has increased from previous years. Yard duty supervisors have coverage zones in which they roam.
  • We have added a clock to the playground to help the older students monitor their eat and play time. Some students prefer to have more time to eat, so the clock is a tool to help them manage their time.

The Oak Knoll Staff considers lunchtime to be an invaluable time for students to develop social skills, problem solve, manage conflict, and collaborate with other students. Thanks to our parent volunteers who are supervising the Wild Zone!
